My DIY furnace repair nightmare

I live in a colder climate, and my furnace is crucial to my family’s comfort.

  • It gets so cold where I live, that I typically have to run my furnace 24/7 during the coldest winter months, which is why I was so frustrated to wake up one morning to feel my furnace blowing cold air.

My family immediately noticed how cold it was becoming in our house, wanting to keep them as comfortable as possible, I did what I always do when something breaks, and turned to YouTube. The man in the video made it seem easy enough: remove the defective part, and replace it with the new part. Easy, right? I went to the hardware store to buy the part I needed, and when I got back home the defective part came out with ease, and the new piece fit in the way it was supposed to. However, when I went to turn my furnace back on, I was still getting cold air. I did some troubleshooting, like checking my air filter and the pilot light, but neither one of those was the problem, so I looked up some more YouTube videos and believed that I found the solution. I went back to the hardware store and bought the new piece that I thought was the problem, but, unfortunately, it did not fix my furnace. Feeling frustrated, and my family freezing, I decided to call my HVAC technician. He was able to come out quickly and identify the problem. Luckily the technician fixed my furnace quickly, and had my family feeling comfortable again in no time. Next time my furnace breaks, I will skip YouTube and go straight to a professional.
