It was a nightmare when I was back in college and stayed with roommates for the first year.
We had an oil furnace and that oil was expensive too.
I also couldn’t believe that the oil didn’t last very long because halfway through the winter, we had to fill it up again and I felt like I was constantly broke. Also, I was always fighting with the others about the temperature control settings and about everybody having to do their fair share with chores. I was always yelling at the others when it was their turn to clean the bathroom and things like that. None of us really got along and it seemed we were all anxious to move out. Well, I was the first one to get out of there as soon as the lease was up. I think everybody except for one roommate decided to stay there and he just got new roommates. Who knows how things went for them, but I can’t imagine they would have been happy with that old oil furnace. After that I moved into a cheap apartment, but it was heaven compared to living with those guys. My energy bills were significantly cheaper and it was so much easier to focus on my school studies. With having good temperature control settings, I was able to land myself into a good career because I remained focused through my college days. I stayed in the apartment for long enough to afford buying a new home, and my home is pretty nice I must say with an excellent HVAC system that is energy efficient.
