When I started this task, it was just a task.
Maybe you remember how it is – young, needing work, not absolutely caring what that labor is as long as it pays! I had no method what I was doing on my first day, however the senior tech in charge was a fine dude.
He pulled me aside & said to be quiet, to listen, & to pay attention to everything he & the other guys did. His name was Max, & he said if I worked hard & did as told, he would teach me how to be an Heating & A/C tech appreciate him. Max was an older guy, & had been in the Heating & A/C industry for twenty years, although he was also a joker & a lunch-cut toker, if you believe what I mean. The point is that outside of labor Max was a cool guy, & on the task he was a focused Heating & A/C professional who regularly delivered top flight results. Although we got to be friends over time, I kept my perspective at labor & stayed focused on studying as much as I could about Heating & A/C systems. It took me weeks just to learn all the specialized tools they use on their HVAC duct tasks. Max was my instructor, & he regularly did right by me, until it got to the point he thought I was ready to get my Heating & A/C certification & “step up to the giant leagues” as he liked to say. Now I run my own Heating & A/C labor crew, & Max & I only see each other on weekends.
