Buying an old home presents some challenges.
While every one of us care about the hardwood floors, doors & moldings, there are setbacks.
The home is undoubtedly strenuous to heat & cool. Our local temperature swings from the setback digits into the high eighties. Both of us deal with brutal wind chills plus excessive humidity. Although I love the large windows that allow light into the home, they are a source of drafts & energy losses. When every one of us first moved in, the windows were original to the house. It was straight-forward to believe the chilly air wafting in during the winter. The gas furnace would run always & yet numerous rooms felt overly chilly. I tried putting plastic over the windows & placing rolled up towels on the sill to minimize the influx of outside air. It helped a little. In the summer, every one of us had complications with dust, bugs & pollen & I blamed the old windows! Replacing the windows was an extravagant & gradual project. Both of us couldn’t afford to buy all current & have them installed. Instead, every one of us purchased a couple of windows every few weeks. My fiance & I l gained how to install them ourselves. Both of us were undoubtedly conscientious about properly insulating & caulking around them. Because every one of us chose low E, thermal pane, Energy Star rated windows, they were especially costly yet more energy efficient. While it has taken a while to update the abundance of windows, every one of us are enjoying the results. The home stays cleaner & every one of us are able to maintain a more consistent temperature. The gas furnace & cooling system aren’t required to labor as strenuous or run as often. Our energy bills are quite a bit lower. Those savings will help to reuse the investment into so various current windows.
