Back when I was a kid, I can’t remember my dad ever fixing anything at all around the house.
He just didn’t know how to do anything like that.
I remember thinking that it was just completely normal to have a maintenance guy at your house all the time. That’s because we always had a maintenance guy who would come to our house to work on things like the refrigerator, the toilet, and the heating and cooling system. His name was Al, and he was at our house enough working on things that he basically became part of the family! I just never thought it was weird back when I was growing up because it always just felt normal to me. Anyway, now that I am married, I just assumed that we would be doing things the same way. However, my wife told me that her dad used to fix everything around the house when she was growing up. Her life was basically the complete opposite of everything that I ever learned when I was growing up. However, now, I’m feeling a lot of pressure to have to learn how to fix everything around the house because that’s what she is used to. I don’t know anything at all about our heating and cooling system and I sure don’t know anything about toilets! Unfortunately, our air conditioning system tore out last week, and the only thing that I knew to do for it was check the batteries in the thermostat unit. That wasn’t the problem, though, so I’m going to have to call someone like Al!
