I loved the way I grew up.
All of us lived in a fairly urban area.
This was challenging plus also rewarding in a lot of ways. However, our dad was an avid outdoorsmen. He did not let the fact that where he lived impact his access to getting outside. That guy was never all that comfortable sitting in the Heating and A/C. He would labor extra hours the first several mornings a month so he could get a 3 morning weekend like once a week. And then he’d grab us out of the Heating and A/C worked on apartment plus all of us were off for a camping adventure. My mom went too sometimes. But I suppose it was also a nice break for her since she was raising 3 guys that were only 5 years apart. While our dad loved to camp plus hike plus all that, he was also doing a solid for mom I think. Anyway, I have had the worst time getting our family interested in getting outdoors. The few times I’ve gotten them out to camp a bit has been disappointing. A few rainy camping trips can genuinely put people off of camping. But I have kept trying. And our latest rue to get the family outdoors has had some success. I bought a portable heating & cooling unit. Of course, you have to do the automobile camping thing because you need a campground with electric. But it genuinely has gotten our family to at least embrace the system of camping out with ol’ dad. Who knows, maybe a few wonderful trips to the campground will result in getting the family out for some real camping.
