I was just sitting down to dinner the other night, when I got an emergency air conditioning repair at the local veterinarian clinic. I grabbed my tools and threw them into my service van, and headed to the clinic. When I walked in, it was so hot that the few people who were sitting there were sweating. Even the dogs had their tongues out and you could see that they were being affected by the heat. The clinic’s receptionist greeted me and showed me to the air conditioning unit. She told me that the quicker I can get the air conditioning running again, the happier everyone would be, including their patients. I asked what happened to the air conditioning unit, and she told me she heard a thump and then quit working. It took me over an hour to figure out what had happened, and then another hour to repair it. By the time I finished with the air conditioning unit, all the people were gone, and the only living beings other than the veterinarian and the receptionist were the animals that were being housed overnight. The veterinarian thanked me for fixing the air conditioning, and told me that if the heat had continued into the night, some of her more serious patients would not have made it. I not only repaired an air conditioning unit and made people feel more comfortable, but I saved lives. The next day, two guys were laughing at me when I told them I saved some lives by repairing that air conditioning unit, but I didn’t think it was funny. Animals have the right to good health, and good air conditioning to help keep them healthy.
