When I go to sleep in the winter I always make sure to turn down my heating at night.
The reason for this is because the central heat and air conditioning system sometimes ends up pumping too much heat out and I end up almost dehydrating if I leave the thermostat at the temperature that I have it set during the time I am awake and living in my house.
I learned this a while back when one night when it was really cold the central heater went on and the air vent right above my bed was cranking that super powerful heating right down on me. I ended up waking up with a dry and sore throat and I nearly had to drink a gallon of water just to get my body hydrated. This was a scary thing. So ever since that happened I make sure and turn down the thermostat to 74 degrees so that it does not get too hot. If I buy a smart thermostat, which I may do soon, I could just program the smart thermostat to turn down the temperature for me so I do not have to remember to do it every single night in the winter time months of the year. Sometimes it is hard to remember and sometimes I nearly forget. So I always leave a note in my bedroom by my bed to turn down the thermostat in the event it slips my mind somehow. But once I buy a smart thermostat I will not have to do this any longer. The smart thermostat will make it happen all on its own.
