My son was four years old when our cat had kittens. I told him the kittens couldn’t be moved away from their mom, because they had to be kept warm. I didn’t think anything more about him picking up the kittens and carrying them around the house. Two weeks later, I walked into the house, and all the kittens were sleeping on the air vent. Cats have no inhibitions, and when they are kittens, they are even worse. Cats are the worst smelling things in the world, and had it been up to me, we wouldn’t have had one. Now, we had ten, because the one had nine more. I kept telling them to keep the cat in the house, but nobody listened. I had cat hair all over my kitchen and even in the casserole I had laid on the counter to cool. I was angry, but I couldn’t blame my son. I hadn’t been specific enough about them being warm. I didn’t tell them they couldn’t be anywhere but with the mommy cat. Their being on the air vent, was enough to make them pee in the air vent and to shiver and shake hair all over. That hair was flying through the air when the furnace turned on, and heat came through the air vent. I knew I had to hurry the process along, and I started making phone calls. The cats were placed in a large cage and as soon as they were old enough, all ten of them were going to new homes. I was going to call the HVAC company and have my ductwork and air ducts cleaned, and I would never have another cat in my house.
