Self-awareness doesn’t come cheap, but it’s desirable for everyone. In my journey to understand and appreciate myself, both the ugly and pretty, I discovered I’m an insomniac. Some people get in bed and two minutes later, are out like a light. I see it with people around me and marvel at it. For me, this is a novelty considering I spend most of my time tossing, turning, and getting frustrated. I have tried everything suggested by specialists. From general psychologists to sleep therapists, but nothing works. I have had a share of my visits to the GP before that. But discovering how my HVAC system can either make or break my quest to have a restful night was phenomenal. Before, I solely depended on my ceiling fan for cooling my room at night. I didn’t understand why the heating in my room made it impossible to settle down, let alone sleep. After coming across a program on a popular news channel, I now understand why. The Sleep Foundation recommends a lower temp room to match your body’s cooling down its temperature when preparing to sleep. Air conditioning bills must be factored in, so I had to get creative. Before, I used the regular conditioning equipment in my home. I switched to a zone-control unit, and the difference is amazing. I had to part with a good chunk of my savings, but it’s so far the best investment I made. The HVAC business in my local area didn’t stock these, so I made an online purchase. But, I used local HVAC technicians to install and assist me decode the user manual. Playing a little with the humidifiers and dehumidifiers is also helping.
