I don’t think that Winter is really ever totally out of our head.

It’s now mid June & the central a/c has kicked on in the house.

That’s about as far away from Winter as all of us get around here. But when you live in a region where the Winter is brutal & lasts a minimum of several months, it tends to stick with you. For me, I’m already in prep mode for the coming Winter & the a/c hasn’t even been on for a few weeks. But I live out in the country & I have a nice bit of land. That’s where I spend a lot of our time during the Summer gathering firewood for the winter. Both of us have good residential Heating & A/C. The gas furnace does a good task of keeping us warm. But I also have a wood stove for supplemental heating & as an emergency heating source if the power goes out. Having a wood stove is great. I enjoy the sort of heating it puts out. There’s nothing really quite love it. It has the cozy feeling of radiant heating but without the moisture. However, there is plenty of prep that goes into using a woodstove for heating in the winter. Not only is there all that wood to cut, cut & stack despite the fact that I act as our own chimney sweep as well. The gas furnace gets the Heating & A/C repair it needs each fall but that’s not from me. The Heating & A/C professionals trek out here to do the heating repair. That’s the last bit of Winter prep I do. But I’ve got a long way to go before then.

It’s not just the Heating and Air Conditioning that changed when the people I was with and I reopened our offices.

The two of us changed offices altogether.

When the pandemic hit, I had to close our offices and send the team lake lake house to their own air conditioner. Initially, I wasn’t so sure how long that would last. But after a week, I was pretty scared that I might not be able to keep my supplier together. It’s a small supplier that I started about several years ago. Having spent a dozen years inside the zone controlled Heating and Air Conditioning of a corporate office, I wanted to continue in the field however under my own direction. That’s a big leap and the people I was with and I were profitable even before I had planned. It wasn’t until my senior year of high college that I seriously started considering the life of a news journalist someday.

My only choice in that case would have been reading Russian, English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Chinese, or American Literature. That’s not exactly the most conductive education for someone seeking a staff writer position at a neighborhood newspaper. Unfortunately, I had to attend a substantial state college instead. On the other hand, their journalism college got myself and others a job right out of college. I worked my way through a series of positions until I went out on my own to create a small online news business that focuses on younger generations in this city, but i have a few employees in our offices downtown. Right now I need serious IT system repair because I don’t have a dedicated IT woman hired for continuous work. I also need to speak with someone about building system integration so I can control my Heating plus Air Conditioning, lights, plus security system all within the same interface.

That wasn’t the problem, though, so I’m going to have to call someone enjoy Al!
