My friends and I used to laugh when someone screwed up in class.

If they broke a tool or just didn’t do what they were supposed to, it was funny.

When you become an adult, what used to be funny, isn’t so funny anymore. When it happened to me, it was even less funny. I was in HVAC class last week. I walked into the class just like I had for the last three months. I was thinking about my pals since we had just gone out together the night before. I guess I should have been paying attention to what I was supposed to be doing instead of thinking about the previous night. I wasn’t really thinking about anything including the air conditioning unit I was supposed to be repairing. I knew it was just practice, but we were supposed to be treating it like it was a real repair job. The instructors had put bad parts into the AC unit. They had certain things that only an observant eye could find and I was supposed to find them. Instead of repairing the broken AC unit, I ended up breaking the fan blades and dropping a tool into the unit. Everyone was laughing as the instructor told me I had techniques he had never seen before and asked me to take a seat. The girl I had a crush on, was asked to come forward and take over where I left off. She found all of the AC problems within five minutes and got an A+ on the hands-on exam. I was asked to stay after class where I was asked if I was serious about being an HVAC technician.

She warned me what would happen if I didn’t go to this HVAC company for the interview

Last week, I was getting ready for an interview. I was so excited to go for this interview. I was going to be an HVAC technician. I worked hard to get my HVAC certification. I went to school for almost a year, and I studied hard. I really enjoyed learning and I thought I was excited to be an HVAC technician. I was on my way for the interview when I saw my best friend. He talked me into going with him and meeting with another friend. The next thing I knew, I was surrounded by a group of guys I hadn’t seen since high school graduation. I only planned on having one beer, thinking it would relax me before heading to the interview. The next thing I knew, we were playing darts and pool and I had several empty glasses lined up in front of me, and none of them were beer glasses. I knew I couldn’t go to the HVAC company in this shape. I was already two hours late, and I wasn’t even sure if I should call them. I called my mom who was so angry, she came down to the bar. I was twenty-two years old, but she grabbed me by the ear and yanked me out. All I could hear was the guys all yelling and laughing at me. I told her she humiliated me and she told me to go back to the bar. She warned me what would happen if I didn’t go to this HVAC company for the interview. She said I would be looking for more than a job. I would be looking for a home, and she was serious.

I had been an HVAC technician for nearly ten years when my boss asked me if I would do him a favor. He said I was one of his strongest HVAC technicians and he wanted me to go to the local college and teach a class for him. He was supposed to be one of the instructors for the new HVAC technician and certification classes. I didn’t think I was qualified to be an instructor, but he insisted. He gave me all of the tools I needed for the class and told me to read over the syllabus. I was nervous, but I was sure I could do it since I wasn’t going to be alone. I sat in the front of the classroom on the first day of class; watching the new students arriving. I saw the most beautiful woman I had ever seen in my life, walk into the classroom. I couldn’t believe she was going to be in my class? I was worried I wouldn’t be able to concentrate. I also couldn’t figure out why she would want to be a HVAC technician. As she approached, I swallowed, hoping not to act like a teenage boy. She walked right up to me and introduced herself. I didn’t hear half of what she said. I knew she had asked if I was the assistant class instructor. I nodded and told her my name. Then she told me she was glad to be working with me. I didn’t understand what she was saying until she removed her jacket. She was wearing an HVAC uniform just like mine. She was the daughter of my HVAC company’s owner, and she worked in another area of town.

I hated going to school.

I didn’t like the structure that went with classroom training.

I didn’t like the discipline that went with going to school. I thought it should all be done to cater to the student. I refused to study hard and I passed the tests with grades that were just enough to get me through the classes. I wasn’t stupid, but I didn’t like comformity. When I graduated, I didn’t have grades that would allow me to get into a good college. The only thing I was able to do was get a job in a local fast food store, or in a factory. I didn’t want to do either. I wanted to start out making good money, but all I was able to do was live at home. I couldn’t even keep a girlfriend because of my lack of money. The only thing I could do was sign up for classes at a local technical school. I chose the class that had the least amount of people and would give me a good paying job. I thought that going to school would get me a job, regardless of how much work I put into the job. Unfortunately, HVAC technicians need to know a lot about their job. Not only was I working hard to get my HVAC certification, but I was enjoying the training. It wasn’t all sitting in class, but I had hands-on training on furnaces and air conditioning units. I wished someone had told me about HVAC technical training before I got out of high school. I would already be a HVAC technician looking forward to a good career.

My wife and I were looking at a ductless mini-split HVAC unit for our garage. The garage is not ducted to the rest of the house and there is no heat or air conditioning in the space. My wife and I have often thought about leaving the garage door closed and turning the room into a recreational room. I would happily buy a billiards table and a dartboard and I know my wife would love to have some space play cards with her friends. We have a ton of ideas to make the space more suitable. Unfortunately, it is a very big project due to the fact that we would need heat and air conditioning in the space. A couple of months ago, my wife and I found a ductless mini-split HVAC unit that would be perfect for the garage. The machine was $1179 at that time. We were going to wait to purchase the mini-split HVAC unit, but we went to the hardware store last weekend and the machine was on sale. My wife and I haven’t even started construction on the space yet, but we certainly could not pass up the opportunity to save 20% on the ductless mini-split HVAC unit. Now that we have the machine in our home, I am hopeful that my wife and I will work harder to finish what we started. We already have the drywall and screws, but we haven’t been moving very fast to put up walls and borders. I would love to see our room finished before the weather gets really warm and humid.

I got married when I was 30 and my wife and I run the business together now. A year ago, the two of us decided it was time to have a website for our plumbing and heating company. I contacted a couple of different web design and advertising companies and we looked at many different designs. My wife and I chose the artist to help with our website and the project was completed in three weeks. The logo for our plumbing and heating company is right on top of the page and it looks great. The graphic artist made a few changes and I really like them. We have a lot of helpful information on the website and we also have a way for customers to reach us quickly. They can call us on the phone or use the email link. We also have a live chat set up. The live chat feature is still very new and it has a couple of problems from time to time. The last time the live chat feature was inoperable, the whole website was down for 3 days before I noticed. One of our customers called when the live chat feature did not work and that is the first time my wife and I noticed the problem. Once we looked at the website traffic and all of our online statistics, we quickly realized that the plumbing and heating company website had been down for days.

I hate to call a professional to work on my home unless it is absolutely and 100% necessary.

Most work I can perform on my own. I had a problem with a leaky pipe in the basement last year and I saved almost a grand by doing the work on my own. I didn’t even spend much money on all of the parts and supplies. I know a little bit of information about heating, plumbing, electrical, and AC work. I certainly wouldn’t call myself a professional, but I have more knowledge than the average person. When I had an issue with the central AC unit in my home, I decided to order the part online so I could save $200. I waited several days for my shipment to arrive. When the new part for the AC unit arrived, I was very disappointed that it didn’t fit perfectly. Luckily, I had some tools to work on the problem. I filed down the side of the parts so it said more snugly inside the air conditioner. It took an extra 30 minutes of my time, but I made the part work. I certainly didn’t want to send it back to the manufacturer and wait another week for a new part to arrive. I was proud of my work after I finished and I started to think about making helpful online videos. I don’t really know much about the internet and youtube, but I think I might be able to help other people tackle everyday home issues and repairs. If I could make money too, that would be exciting and fantastic.

My boss knows that I use marijuana, but that doesn’t mean that he approves.

I signed a form when I started working for this HVAC services provider that states I will not use illegal drugs including cannabis, cocaine, meth, pills, and crack. The HVAC service provider did not drug test me for the job. If they would have tested me, I would not have been able to take the job. I have been working for this company for a year and my boss knows I use marijuana. We have had several conversations about the issue. He thinks I should spend more time at the gym working out. Yesterday, I got into a fender bender with another car. It wasn’t my fault at all. I was driving in my lane and the car didn’t look before he switched lanes. The driver hit my passenger side and scraped the paint and broke the mirror. We called the police to file a report. When I got back to the HVAC workshop later that afternoon, my boss informed me that I have to take a drug test tomorrow. He was actually supposed to send me on the same day, but he didn’t tell me right away. He wanted me to have time to get rid of the weed in my system so I won’t lose my job. I had to drive to five different smoke shops and health food stores before I found a product that can cleanse your system in just twelve hours.

Summertime in our region can feel like wearing a very hot, very wet invisible blanket all over you, all the time.

There are four months during the summer that this blanket is everywhere you turn.

That is except for the inside of homes and businesses. And that’s thanks to great HVAC cooling. Our summer is still something to be enjoyed. I get up before sunrise to get my outdoor fun in prior to the heat of the day. But by 11am or so, it really starts getting blazing hot. That’s when I am sure to be inside with the HVAC cooling my home. But, once the sun is lowering in the horizon, it’s nice to get out again for some fresh air or exercise. And honestly, there is nowhere else that I would rather live. Having lived in the north, I know that I prefer to manage a hot summer rather than try to survive a long, cold winter and all that HVAC heating. I’m not sure there would even be enough HVAC heating. No, I’ll stick with the HVAC cooling. And I’m thankful that it cools my house and also provides another vital function. As the HVAC is cooling the house, it’s also balancing the humidity in the house as well. The HVAC heat pump actually removes heat energy from inside the house and exhausts it outside. As it performs this function, it’s also extracting a great deal of moisture from the air as well. Without that function, the inside of the house would be ripe for mold & mildew. And nobody wants to deal with that stuff.

I loved the way I grew up. We lived in a fairly urban area. This was challenging and also rewarding in a lot of ways. However, my dad was an avid outdoorsmen. He did not let the fact that where he lived impact his access to getting outside. That man was never all that comfortable sitting in the HVAC. He would work extra hours the first four days a week so he could get a 3 day weekend like once a month. And then he’d grab us out of the HVAC maintained house and we were off for a camping adventure. My mom went too sometimes. But I think it was also a nice break for her since she was raising 3 boys that were only 5 years apart. While my dad loved to camp and hike and all that, he was also doing a solid for mom I think. Anyway, I have had the worst time getting my family interested in getting outdoors. The few times I’ve gotten them out to camp a bit has been disappointing. A few rainy camping trips can really put people off of camping. But I have kept trying. And my latest ploy to get the family outdoors has had some success. I bought a portable heating & cooling unit. Of course, you have to do the car camping thing because you need a campground with electric. But it really has gotten my family to at least embrace the idea of camping out with ol’ dad. Who knows, maybe a few good trips to the campground will result in getting the family out for some real camping.
