How to manage your home’s humidity

I live in a fairly humid climate. During the summers, humidity can soar in my area. Humidity can cause major problems for homes, as well as the people inside them. Excess humidity can cause respiratory issues, oily skin, and a general feeling of clamminess. Humidity can also be damaging to your home itself. Too much humidity for extended periods of time can cause damage to the wood in your home, causing it to swell and warp. The best way to manage the humidity levels in your home is with a dehumidifier. A dehumidifier works to remove the moisture out of the air in your home by drawing warm air into a condenser with a fan, and passing the warm air through refrigerated coils causes the moisture to condense, and collects in a reservoir. There are two main types of dehumidifier. The less expensive option is a portable dehumidifier. A portable dehumidifier can be plugged into any room, and works to reduce the humidity in that room. The second type, which requires more of an initial investment, is a dehumidifier that is installed in-line with your HVAC system, and works to dehumidify your entire home. While an in-line dehumidifier may require more of an initial investment, removing moisture throughout your entire home is a good way to increase the life of your home, and also helps your HVAC system to run more efficiently. Humid air is more dense, and requires more energy to circulate throughout your home versus dry air. Huid air also makes it easier for pathogens to travel through the air in your home, and a dehumidifier is a great way to prevent your family from getting sick!
