I can feel colder air in my house after changing a clogged HVAC filter

Now that my wife and I are working at our respective offices again, we are both forgetting basic chores and errands.

I almost forgot to pay the water bill last month and we were a day away from the county shutting off the connection to our house.

I can’t remember the last time we dusted the house, especially now that we’re getting into allergen season. It’s important to clean your interior spaces whenever there are more allergens coming in from outside. For us, that’s usually spring and autumn compared to any other time in the year. We’re in the dead middle of spring and the temperatures outside are increasing while the allergen levels stay roughly the same. That means we are forced to use an air conditioner all day long when we get to this point. This year we had to start using our air conditioner in February because we had an abnormally warm year. By the time I finally remembered to change our air conditioner filter, it had been in the machine for months. I was shocked to see all of the caked-on dust caught in the old air conditioner filter. I carefully put it into a garbage bag so I would dislodge any of the dust in the process. After throwing away the old filter, I put the new air conditioner filter in its place. The air conditioner powered on again and I could immediately feel the difference with the new HVAC filter. The air coming out of my ceiling vents was colder and the thermostat dropped the fastest it has in months. I learned that neglecting air conditioner filter changes has a massive negative effect on HVAC performance overall. You might think you need air conditioner repairs when you just need a new disposable filter.
