I had never had a programmable thermostat before, and I was having a difficult time trying to find the perfect temperatures when it wasn’t that time of day yet. It was easy to know when no one would be home and to set a temperature for that time of day. I didn’t know what the weather was going to be like when we were home. I was talking to the HVAC technician about knowing how to set the thermostat. He told me that he had a better thermostat, but it was a bit more expensive. He explained how the thermostat was tuned in to the outdoor weather. It would set the humidity and temperature according to the weather conditions. This sounded like a great feature to have for the house. I wanted to know if it could still be programmed to have a different temperature when no one was home. He explained how the thermostat had the technology to note when someone came into the house, and the temperature would automatically reset to preset choices. I liked the idea of an automated thermostat, but I had one other question. What would happen if a stranger came into the house? He explained that if the house was opened by any other means than a key, the thermostat could be set to trigger an alarm to the police. Now that was my idea of a full-service thermostat. My wife and I discussed the thermostat and made the decision to purchase one. The weekend after having the thermostat installed, our son came home from college. He forgot his key and tried to climb through a window.
