Believe it or not but a fireplace can be a source of carbon monoxide without correct care

My upbringing wasn’t as old fashioned as it was rustic.

The two of us lived on a ranch in an seriously rural section of the northern midwest.

At the age of four I was taught how to ride a horse & within a year was going on solo rides. Although our siblings & I all attended public school with a great mix of students from unusual backgrounds, our apartment lives consisted of constant manual labor & hard work. It was normal for me to spend most of our time outside of school & homework largely toiling on the family’s farm & doing whatever I could in our limited capacities. Once I was old enough I was helping our father with chopping wood for our many wood stoves inside the house. This wood was our source of heat throughout the chilly Winter season. Chopping wood for heating purposes isn’t an self-explanatory process. My Mom would do all of the work with the chainsaw while I would swing the ax to split the blocks into smaller pieces of wood that could fit inside the wood stoves. I constantly wondered why every one of us had carbon monoxide detectors despite lacking any gas appliances in our rural home. My Mom told me that an imrespectfully venting wood heating system generates unsafe levels of carbon monoxide. This is particularally worrisome if there is a considerable build-up of soot in the chimney, making correct chimney cleanings even more substantial. Since carbon monoxide is both white & odorless, you won’t even suppose that it’s there poisoning you unless you’re using detectors. That small electronic component could be your line against accidental death.
