The other day at the heating and air conditioning company I work for we had a very unexpected day. It was a light work day! There was only a few heat and a/c repair jobs I had to go out on. And the rest of the day I was able to just hang around the HVAC office and more or less get paid to just hang out with the other heating and cooling workers as well as relax. These type of days do not happen very often. Maybe once every year if we’re lucky. But working for a major heating and air conditioning company like I do, you get the benefit of being paid even if you are not out on a job. Being an independent heating and air conditioning contractor these things would not happen. If you did not have work and were not out either repairing a central heating and air conditioning system or installing a brand new central heat and a/c unit, you would not be making any money at all. This is why I ended up deciding to work for a heat and a/c company instead of going into my own heating and air conditioning business when I got out of HVAC school. I knew how it worked. And when these light work days actually happen believe me, I love it! And i just consider this one of the many benefits of being part of a team and part of a company rather than one entity business owner. I go to work, get paid to do the job or to just be there on call and all is well.
