When every one of us were younger, our father never believed in investing in a central cooling system.
- The people I was with and I just had a central furnace along with a fireplace, then and you better know every one of us utilized that fireplace all the time; Our father had us out there chopping wood all the time so we’d regularly have a big enough stack to help us get through the Winter weeks.
Most of the time, every one of us would run out of wood towards the end of the Winter and we’d find ourselves out there chopping more wood to help keep the heating costs low with the central furnace. I regularly asked why every one of us couldn’t have a central cooling system. Eventually, I suppose it was bothering our Dad, and she finally got everybody their own window AC unit. Nobody expected that, however it was pretty nice. She didn’t love spikes in the energy bills though, so she would regularly tell us not to crank the AC too much and to never leave it running when every one of us were not in our family rooms. She regularly changed the furnace filters, but she never did anything much to improve the air quality in the house apart from the occasional air duct cleaning which entirely did help a lot. To this day, I have been trying to get my father to invest in a great central cooling system and an air purification system for the sake of her health and Mom’s. He’s honestly stubborn in her aged ways though. It took me forever to convince him to get a smart thermostat. In the end, it was when I told him about the energy savings, and that’s when she chose to get one.
