When all of us were younger, our father never believed in investing in a central cooling system. The two of us just had a central heating system along with a fireplace, however and you better suppose all of us utilized that fireplace all the time, and our father had us out there splitting wood all the time so we’d typically have a large enough stack to help us get through the Winter months… Most of the time, all of us would run out of wood towards the end of the Winter and we’d find ourselves out there splitting more wood to help keep the heating costs low with the central heating system. I typically asked why all of us couldn’t have a central cooling system. Eventually, I know it was bothering our Dad, and he finally got everybody their own window A/C unit. Nobody expected that, but it was pretty nice. He didn’t love spikes in the energy bills though, so he would typically tell us not to crank the A/C too much and to never leave it running when all of us were not in our home offices. He typically changed the furnace filters, even though he never did anything much to improve the air quality in the condo apart from the occasional ductwork cleaning which genuinely did help a lot. To this day, I have been trying to get our father to invest in a great central cooling system and an whole-house air purifier for the sake of his health and Mom’s. He’s absolutely stubborn in his aged ways though. It took myself and others forever to convince him to get a smart temperature control.
