I wanted to be an HVAC technician, but not spend the money

I couldn’t understand why I couldn’t work for an HVAC company as an apprentice, and learn as I worked. With an apprenticeship, I could learn as I worked and shouldn’t need to spend my savings on classes. I was sure I would still need to complete my certification, but, hopefully, if I was working for a good HVAC corporation, they may pay for that class for me. Although they weren’t looking for anyone, I was asked why I wanted to work there. I explained how I couldn’t get the money to go to technical school, but it was a job I really wanted. The reason I came to the contractor for work was so I could make some money to go to school. I also explained my plan of speeding up my training by being an apprentice. I could learn most of what I needed through this company, and go to school only for my certification. The owner looked at me and said he would be in touch. It surprised me when I got a phone call to come in and start work, two days later.
