Dad is retired, and I think he now has too much time on his hands.
My home is now the focus of his attention as he’s always around to fix or upgrade something.
My partner and I don’t mind since my dad is so good at what he does. But we worry about him sometimes. Since I was a kid, my dad has been a project man doing big things. But, he was always wishing he would retire and relax. Now it seems like he misses work. Mom had us over for dinner the other day, and we noticed their home felt a little warm. I had to ask them why their thermostat wasn’t set properly. Mom complained that their old dial thermostat wasn’t working efficiently like it used to. It would sometimes just turn to heat mode, and the house would be a furnace. Since it’s summer, I didn’t find that ideal and told them about getting a smart thermostat. Dad was fascinated when my partner described how efficient and ideal a smart thermostat could be for a modern home. My parents had an energy-efficient latest model HVAC system installed last year. However, they’d opted to remain with the dial thermostat they were used to. Now that this unit wasn’t effective, it was time to change and get a better thermostat. Dad loved the idea of downloading an app on his phone through which he could adjust the thermostat settings. On the other hand, Mom was still hung up about having a dial thermostat, which she’d used for decades.
