Sometimes a quick patch doesn’t fix the problem.
I have been trying to prolong the lifespan of my gas furnace for years.
Five years ago my HVAC technician told me I should replace my furnace. He told me it was old, worn out and only going to cost me money. Well what costs me more money is getting a brand new heating system! I have put my furnace on life support time and time again. I know that every fall I need to call for heating service. If I don’t do this step the furnace will no way turn on. I need a professional to oil, clean and lubricate all moving parts. He needs to encourage the furnace to heat just one more year. At the end of the heating season I need to call the HVAC professional back. This is usually a double check to make sure something hasn’t gone wrong with the machine. Everytime I have to make some kind of heater repair. Usually it is something small like the blower or belt system. My HVAC professional recently told me that my heat exchanger is totally blown out. I researched how much a new heat exchanger is and I found out it is the same as getting a brand new furnace. This is the first time I can’t do a heater repair to make the furnace live longer. It would be dumb to replace the exchanger. I now am researching new furnaces and dreading the cost. It is going to hurt. I have spent so much on my old furnace, I don’t want to buy a new one.
