I’ve been without air conditioning a few times and there are a few steps I needed to take to be able to cope with the heat.
After all, it was almost always in the summertime right when the heat wave struck that I found myself without air conditioning.
Whether it was because the air conditioner gave out on me due to the strain, or because it was just a touch of bad luck, I found myself without the comfort of climate control for a little while. There’s a few things I did to cope. The first thing I did was make sure that I drank plenty of fluids. I’m the kind of guy that already drinks plenty of water everyday, so it wasn’t all that difficult to stay hydrated. Your body needs it to be able to sweat, and of course, sweating cools you off. Another thing that really helped me stay cool was taking cold showers. I’m usually a hot shower kind of guy, but these cold showers were so refreshing in the intense heat. It felt so good that I wanted to let the water run on my body forever! I also found that it was quite helpful to close all the blinds throughout the house so that the sunlight would not cause any of the rooms to get any warmer than they needed to be. Finally, I also used box fans to circulate the air in the various rooms of my house. Keeping air circulating definitely lowers the temperature and provides just that much more comfort.
