I don’t recall being quite so soft when I was a kid. That seems like a fairly broad indictment on our three kids plus I legit don’t mean it to be. But there is truly a difference between our comfort level as a child plus theirs. I was raised in a nice home with central air conditioning just like they have. And there were lots of distractions from cable TV to video games. My kids spend a lot of time inside the air conditioning of our house, doing the online gaming thing. I was never so enticed with the video games when I was a kid. And TV was legitimately for sports like football. For me, I wanted to be out of the central air conditioning plus enjoying or exploring our wide, wonderful world. That’s not at all the way our kids are. I don’t guess that I can necessarily blame modern technology or our screen culture for the way our kids view nature. But I have to say that these things play a position in the fact that our children just don’t want to be outside of the Heating and Air Conditioning cooling. I mean, I get that when it’s a hundred degrees outdoors plus the sun feels like it may melt you. But for us, that’s not however a quarter of the year. And yet, I can hardly get anyone to go camping with me. I set up a perfect camping trip last fall that I had to practically plead with our family to join myself and others on. I even went so far as to promise to bring along sectional furnaces for the trip. That’s how soft our kids are. It wasn’t enough that every one of us were camping at a place with wireless, electric hook ups, kitchens plus full bathrooms, they need sectional furnaces too.
