Running a woodshop the way that my brother and I do means that you need to have a really good HVAC system installed in your shop.
An HVAC system is one of those things that you kind of take for granted until you run a place like a wood shop where the air quality in your place actually affects all of your work and all of your stock and products.
When we first started doing our furniture and cabinet shop, I had no idea that the air quality was going to be quite so important to our business. I had never run a wood shop before, and so I had never really had to deal with large quantities of wood and cabinetry and the storage thereof. Well once we got started on our business, we realized that the air quality in our space was tantamount to making sure that our business was going to succeed. The humidity issues that we have encountered with our wood and the way that it warps sometimes in the wrong humidity has been very important to us. We have definitely encountered a learning curve when it comes to things like that, but now we have a really great heating and cooling system installed in the woodshop and everything is fine. Once we figured out exactly where the humidity levels needed to be, we were able to adjust our thermostat to the right temperature for our products and our supplies. We also found a really great commercial HVAC company to help us out with all of our heating and cooling and humidity control needs.
