My mother has Alzheimer’s and sometimes she comes off with some really strange things. Last night, I fixed her favorite dinner of steak and baked potatoes. She had the butter and sour cream on her potato when she looked at me and told me she couldn’t eat yet. I asked her if there was something wrong with the food, and she said it was good. She just couldn’t eat yet. I thought I may have forgotten to take her medicine, and she knows she needs to take it before she eats. I looked at the packet, but the pills were gone. I sat down next to her and I started eating.. She stopped my fork halfway to my mouth and told me we had to wait for the HVAC technician. I didn’t remember calling the HVAC technician, but she thought I had. She said she would not eat until the HVAC technician got there. I asked her who invited the HVAC technician to dinner, but she only rolled her eyes. She called me by her sister’s name and told me she asked him to dinner to meet mom and dad. She wanted to introduce him to dad and get his approval to date the HVAC technician. I thought she was talking about dad, but he wasn’t an HVAC technician, or at least not as far as I knew. When dad came in from outside, he sat down to eat his dinner. She grabbed his hand and told him she knew he would come. Dad gave her hand a squeeze and said he would never miss a dinner with such a beautiful girl like her. Dad was her HVAC technician.
