The landlord was unreasonable about not needing a/c

When I moved into my apartment, the property owner told myself and others that all I needed to keep the cabin cool was a fan.

I wondered why they didn’t have a/c in the cabin building, even though I didn’t ask. I took the guy at his word! Two weeks later, we were into the Summer weeks at last. It was sweltering in my apartment, plus I needed something more than a fan. I bought a window a/c to put in the window, but one of the neighbors was frustrated, he told myself and others they weren’t allowed a window a/c unit, plus they wanted to know why I was. I didn’t suppose anything about not being allowed to use a window a/c unit. I called the property owner, plus he told myself and others that running the AC component was grounds for having myself and others evicted right away. I couldn’t think what I was hearing. There was nothing in my lease that mentioned not being able to use window AC units. I didn’t recognize they could particularly evict me. Two weeks later, I received a notice of eviction. I took the lease to my friend, who was a lawyer, and he couldn’t find anything in the lease that even hinted at not being allowed a window AC unit, or that it could be grounds for eviction… Then when he saw who the property owner was, he shook his head. He said the guy was one of the shadiest property owners in the city, plus I was up for a fight. The only thing I could do was move, plus conflict through renter court about getting back my deposit.
