The hotel room smelled of disinfectant and smoke.

They tried to assure us it was a non-smoking room, and they had an air purification system, but we argued.

My husband and I went to a hotel for our long weekend. We called ahead to make sure we had reservations and to tell them we wanted a non-smoking room. I was allergic to smoke and my husband just didn’t like the smell. When we got to the hotel, it was nicer than we remembered. The only problem was that we requested a non-smoking room, but the room smelled of disinfectant and smoke. I was hoping they had an air purification system in the hotel, but I was wrong. They also had an excellent HVAC system, but it didn’t get rid of the smell either. We called the front desk, and they offered to send someone up to clean the room, but that wasn’t good enough. I was already having a problem breathing, and it was getting worse. My husband called the front desk again, and said we wanted a non-smoking room, but it isn’t what we got. Regardless of how much the HVAC system ran, without air purification, the smoke was not going away. The people at the desk weren’t sure how to handle the problem. They tried to assure us it was a non-smoking room, and they had an air purification system, but we argued. My husband told them to come up to the room and they would also smell the smoke. One person, who was a manager, made their way up, and he was a non-smoker. He apologized, got us another room, and told them to make sure there was a portable air purification system. He also wanted to know who was in charge of cleaning that room.
