My brother graduated college, but wanted to be an HVAC technician.

I knew my parents weren’t happy when my brother first said he wanted to be an HVAC technician.

He didn’t want to go to college, and they knew it, but they refused to think any child of theirs wasn’t going to be a professional.

I tried to speak for my brother and said he was going to be a professional, he just wanted to be a professional HVAC technician. Neither mom nor dad were impressed with me. They coerced my brother into going to college, but him wanting to be an HVAC technician never really went away. After graduating from college, he still wanted to be an HVAC technician. The only difference was that he now had enough knowledge to go in as an HVAC contractor who can build and design HVAC systems. When he told our parents he was still planning on working for an HVAC company, my father went ballistic. He told my brother he would not allow it. My brother had gotten quite independent in the last four years. He told dad he was no longer a child and if he didn’t like the job he chose, that was fine. He also announced that he was getting married just as soon as he got a good job. Mom cried, and dad walked away, but they both came around a week later when my brother introduced his fiance to them. She was in her last year of law school, and getting ready to work for a local law firm. They may not think of my brother as a professional, but he was marrying one.
