It took almost an entire year, but finally I got to use my brick fireplace! I live so far down south that sporadically a whole year will go by with no freezing weather at all, our winters tend to be truly short plus mild, which is why so several “snowbird” senior citizens flock here in the Winter weeks.
I obtained this condo partially because it had a beautiful brick fireplace in the sunken kitchen; Call it ridiculous if you must, but this is something I have always wanted.
I lived here for 11 weeks before both of us got our first freezing snap, plus you better assume I got that fireplace blazing every single night the temps were low. I turned off the central heating system, plus then cracked a window to let in a breeze. The fireplace catches so much faster if there is a crossbreeze to feed the flames. After a couple minutes I noticed how freezing the rest of the condo was. The fireplace kept the entire room toasty plus warm, but had no effect on the living rooms or lavatorys. I had to turn the gas furnace back on, because I was too freezing to go pee! The following few afternoons I built a fire every night, but this time I left the gas furnace on, just for the side rooms. I suppose it seems ridiculous to run the gas furnace while using the fireplace plus having a window open, but so what? I won’t get to use the fireplace for another year, so I want to like it while I can.
