When my parents retired plus moved down south, I decided to buy their house! The apartment was not in the best of shape because my parents had not done any repair in the last 15 or 20 years, then my dad got hurt at labor plus had to retire early plus it’s not like my mom can get up on their roof to check for soft spots.
- When I bought the house, I had an inspector come to the site to tell me everything that was wrong.
The home inspector spent at least 2 hours checking all of the odd parts of the house! One thing that was mentioned in the report that was a major problem was the roof. The roof had to be updated in order for my loan to qualify under the guidelines, then i was a first time home customer plus I was trying to get an FHA loan. The loan would not qualify with the issues with the roof, so I had to get a conventional loan or figure out a way to get the roof repairs done first. My mom plus dad did not have the money to spend my money for all of the roofing repairs plus neither did I, and lucky for me, one of my coworkers knew of a commercial plus residential roofing upgrade business that would do the labor plus then wait to get paid after the apartment was sold. I also found out that I could change my loan around plus get extra money for repairs on the house. I thought the roofing issues were going to be a disaster, however it didn’t turn out to be that bad.
