I hadn’t been in our attic for several years, and last year I went up to clean.
I forgot how unbearably hot it got, and I wished I had waited until fall to do the cleaning.
We had been talking about doing some remodeling, and we were hoping to put insulation in the attic and turn it into a private room for our oldest daughter. I knew we would need air conditioning in the attic, and heat for the winter. The HvAC technician came to the house to look and see if we could use our current HVAC system to heat and cool the attic. When he said it wouldn’t work, I wanted to know why. He said there wasn’t any ductwork in the attic, which is what the HVAC technician was looking for. He told us our best bet for HVAC, would be to put ductless HVAC in the attic. We wanted some time to regroup and put more thought into turning the attic into a bedroom. I was sure the ductless HVAC system would be quite expensive. We talked for almost a week about the attic, and the HVAC system we needed to turn it into a bedroom. We finally called the HVAC company and asked how much a ductless HVAC system would cost for the bedroom. I couldn’t believe when he told us the price and how much it would cost to run if we used it every day. We would recoup the money in about a year, and the bedroom would be there after all three of our girls used it as a private studio.
