My dad offered me a job when I was just fourteen-years-old.
He told me he needed someone who was good at math to do his inventory. I was responsible for putting the parts away when ever we got deliveries, and I had to keep track of everything going out. I loved working at dad’s HVAC company and I enjoy listening to the stories the HVAC technicians told. They would tell me about their HvAC jobs and it all sounded interesting. I wondered if someday my dad would hire me as an HvAC technician, but I knew that was a long time coming. I spent three summers working in the HVAC company, doing inventory, and I was having a good time. After I graduated from high school, dad called me into the office. He told me I had been doing such a great time in inventory, that he hated taking me away from it, but he promised to send me to HVAC school. They had a class starting in three weeks, and he wanted to know if I was ready to sign up for the class. He was going to be the instructor, and had three spots left. I jumped at the chance to be an HVAC technician. I told him I would still the inventory after class, and he seriously thought about it. He said he wanted me to put all my energy into going to HVAC school. He needed two more HVAC technicians, and he was hoping to give one of those positions to me. It didn’t take long to say yes.
