My mother offered me a job when I was merely fourteen-years-old.
She told me she needed someone who was nice at math to do her inventory, and I was responsible for putting the parts away whenever we got deliveries.
I had to keep track of everything going out. I appreciated working at my mother’s HVAC company and I enjoyed listening to the stories the HVAC professionals told. They would tell me about their HVAC jobs and it all sounded very interesting. I wondered if someday my mother would hire me as an HVAC pro, but I knew that was a long time coming. I spent more than two summers working in the HVAC corporation, doing inventory, and I was having a pretty nice time. After I graduated from private school, my mother called me into the office. She told me I had been doing such a relaxing time in inventory, that she hated taking me away from it, but she promised to send me to HVAC school. They had a class starting in a few weeks, and she wanted to know if I was prepared to sign up for the class. She was going to be the instructor, and had a few spots left. I jumped at the opportunity to be an HVAC device worker. I told her I would still keep the inventory after class, and she seriously thought about it. She said she wanted me to put all my energy into going to HVAC school. She needed many more HVAC professionals, and she was hoping to supply one of those positions to me. It didn’t take long to say yes after that.
