He didn’t believe in a woman being a Heating and Air Conditioning tech
As a new Heating and Air Conditioning contractor, I got to go on the dirtiest Heating and Air Conditioning calls that contact us. I got to go with an experienced Heating and Air Conditioning tech, but I had to do all of the dirty work. At first I thought it was because I was a woman, however after a couple years, I realized it was the way they initiated all the new Heating and Air Conditioning contractors. I guess they felt that if you could handle the dirty jobs that we get, you could handle any kind work that came up. I l gained a lot of experience during that first year at the Heating and Air Conditioning company. I also gained a lot of confidence in myself. I knew there were some jobs that I excelled at plus others that I was superb at, however there were some Heating and Air Conditioning techs who did better than me and had been doing this job way longer. I normally don’t pick and choose which jobs I want to take, however last week was an exception. They provided me a home to go to that only needed an easy a/c inspection plus maintenance check. I could feel all the hair on the back of my neck stand straight up suddenly. I asked if there was something else I could do and let someone else have this job and I’ll take another. The dispatcher looked at me oddly. I swallowed and told her that that job was where our ex-boyfriend lived. We ended up breaking up when I decided I wanted to be a Heating and Air Conditioning contractor. He didn’t believe in a woman being a Heating and Air Conditioning tech. The dispatcher told me she could genuinely find me something else, however it wouldn’t be as easy as this one. I smiled and told her thanks.
