Air conditioning costs plummet with solar shades

When I first moved down here, I was just so thankful not to have to deal with the sort of Winter weather that required me having a gas furnace.

  • That was the most important aspect of the move in my eyes.

I took a lateral position just so I could be done with that sort of Winter weather. Sure, that was great motivation to get me down here. But of course, I realized that there was going to be an offset when it came to my change in climate. For sure, I would no longer have the type of Winter weather that would require me to be stuck inside with the heating going all Winter. Yet, I would have been a fool not to realize that there would be a balance when it comes to the level of heat and humidity this region sees during the Summer. The first year, there wasn’t much I could do but just try to manage my way through the Summer months. And that came with a whole lot of air conditioning from the heat pump. That level of air conditioning was not sustainable because it cost me a fortune. It’s true that I didn’t have any real heating costs in the winter. But that didn’t justify me spending ridiculous amounts of money for cooling my house. So I started doing little things like programming the digital thermostat and sealing up my house. But last year, I did the most significant thing I could do to reduce the demand for cooling in our home. I had a smart thermostat installed and synced it with some mechanical solar shades. There is no longer a direct sunlight heating effect that I have to deal with any longer.
