She needed boiler repair, but being new to the area, she needed to figure out how to get the right HVAC technician. We stayed over for a week to help her finish unpacking because she’d been stalling for three months. We added finding an HVAC repairman to the list of things to do while there so that we’d leave her with a functional heater. It was a memorable week because we needed to put more effort into resolving heating and cooling system issues or finding the right heating contractor. One of our friends convinced us that trying to find one online would only lead us to a fake heating and cooling provider, and we all fear scams, especially since we pride ourselves on being good at avoiding them. So going into town was the only option. We opted to unpack first since the electric furnace was still working, and we’d learned to tune out the hum. There were several central heating technology businesses in town, and we needed clarification on finding one with a reliable heating equipment technician. So, instead of going as a group to each central heater shop, we split and then came back to share feedback on the customer service in each business. We picked the business I went to because I left there knowing about furnace/heater tune-up in more detail than the others. With the issue fixed, I went back to buy a furnace filter for my unit before we left, and I wish they installed it for me too, but I lived far.
