Our boiler didn’t die, the air conditioning turned on

Last week, I was lying in my bedroom when I realized I hadn’t heard the boiler operating for quite some time! The temperature in the home was cool, but not unbearable.

I had the control component set to 68 degrees to conserve energy, and the temperature in the house was also 68 degrees.

I knew the house was sizzling, so I disregarded the absence of noise from the boiler. Later that evening, the temperature began to drop, but I still could not hear the boiler. It was only 53 degrees outside, and I was certain that it should have been on by now. The temperature inside was falling. I contacted the Heating and Air Conditioning company, and they dispatched a technician to my residence within an hour. He examined the boiler as well as the control unit. He reported that the boiler was performing well, and after inspecting the control unit, he reported that nothing was amiss. I knew there must have been a problem with the boiler or the control unit. I observed his return to the control unit with a smile on his face. He inquired as to whether I had changed the control component to cooling. I had not touched the control unit other than to check the indoor temperature. Someone changed the control component from heating to cooling, according to him. When my son entered, I recalled him hanging his coat on the control component. He was complaining that the house was too hot. He must have pressed the button on the control unit that changed the mode from heating to cooling.
