Now that the weather has finally warmed up a bit, I can workout outside.
There is an elevated wooden deck constructed across the back of the house.
It’s a big space with a lovely view and the perfect space to exercise! Unfortunately, for most of the year, the weather is far too cold or wet to use it. In our local area we are faced with snow and below-zero temperatures for at least six to eight months. During the fall and Spring, there’s often high winds and non-stop rain. I am always eager for the opportunity to open windows, head outside and breathe the fresh air. I look forward to sunshine instead of gray skies. The summer weather heats up very quickly. All too soon, the conditions become seriously hot and sticky. I know I need to complete my workout first thing in the morning. During the early hours of the day, the deck is shaded. It can feel a little chilly when I first start my exercise program. I complete my warm-up and stretching and then transition into high-impact aerobics and various types of strength training. I typically set out a yoga mat, use eight-pound free weights and my jump rope. I keep a water bottle handy while I’m out on the deck. I have a wireless speaker that connects to my smartphone so that I can listen to a customized workout playlist of music. It’s enjoyable and gets me motivated. I push myself to get the most out of the workout and burn as many calories as possible. As the sun steadily creeps across the deck, the conditions get much warmer. I get drenched in sweat and the yoga mat turns hot to the touch. I am unable to stand, sit or lie on the mat once the sunlight starts hitting it.
