But aunt Nicole said there was no need. The independent HVAC specialist was well-known in the area and would let himself into the house. They live in a close-knit community, and he is a part of it, and does all the HVAC work for folks in the area. All she had to do was leave a key under the mat and the guy would let himself in. Hillary was surprised at the level of trust that her aunt had given the HVAC specialist wasn’t a relative. But, that is how small communities are, and they operate on high levels of trust. Later, when they came back, there was a note from the HVAC specialist on the kitchen table saying he’d take a bottle of water from the refrigerator.

Something was inside my vent and I almost lost my mind when I heard it.

Out of fear, I screamed and ran out of the room as fast as I could.

This is what I get for not getting my ducts cleaned in a very long time. Now, there was some sort of creature living up there. See, I bought an old house and have been working on it for the past 5 years. This is purely a labor of love because I love the area, and thought the property was worth it. My mom had tried to talk me out of the purchase, but I am stubborn and wanted to also work on my renovation skills. So this house would be a representation of my talent, and a way to advertise my business. Most of the work was complete, but there were still some things that I was yet to handle. One was the HVAC cooling and heating in the house together with the ductwork. My plan was to save up and get all the work done at the same time. But, it seems there was no time to waste because I needed urgent pest control and duct cleaning. I grabbed my phone after catching my breath and called the HVAC company to explain what had happened. We locked eyes, and out of shock, I stood frozen, unable to close the door. Now my awful future partner had about 30 pairs of eyes staring at him while he was using the lavatory. I finally reclaimed and closed the door, and the air conditioner tech left very quickly afterwards. I felt so bad, especially after all the people quit laughing. A month or so later, I went on a blind date that my friend had set up, and I am sure you can think who my date was, but yes, the Heating and A/C professional who I accidentally embarrassed. We still remembered each other, and after the two of us got past the initial embarrassment, the two of us definitely hit it off and started dating. Years later, the two of us were pronounced partner and wife.
