There are so many things to learn and get accustomed to when moving from north to south.
There is a cultural difference for sure.
Then, some of the menu choices are a bit curious. But of course, one big change is the climate. We went from having our gas furnace cranking out the HVAC heating all winter to a heat pump. And that heat pump doesn’t get much of a workout in our house. The second winter we were down here, I counted a total of 11 times that the heat pump kicked on. Every one of those instance where HVAC heating was needed was early in the morning. Maybe a couple of hours worth of heating was all that was ever needed to knock the chill out of the place. The other big thing we were loving getting accustomed to was no neighbors. We have a house on 8 acres of land. So we didn’t put up any window treatments up so we could revel in our privacy and enjoy the view as well. What I didn’t know about was that the direct sunlight heating in this region is fierce. And I mean fierce. The very first spring, as the temperatures were coming up, the air conditioning was kicking on a lot. By May, the utility bill was completely insane. Thankfully, the HVAC company got me hip to the situation and got me a great link to a solar blind company. These things are amazing as they are controlled by the smart thermostat to go up and down as the sun moves across the sky.
