I own a great many real estate properties. I own both single family homes, and big housing complexes. I own a locale with ten doors that is right on a lake! Each property has its own pros and cons. For the longest time I was doing all the work myself. My sister had tons of homes for rentals as well. Both of us would option a turf today and now all our property’s sods. Both of us would start working on 8am Monday and not finish until 8pm because that is how long it took. For a little while it was nice checking in on all our units, you could see who was leaving trash out in the yard. You could see if there was injure to one of the units. Sometimes occupants liked to mill about and chat about things. It was a great way to touch base. It got to be too much for both my sister and I. One day we just decided to hire everything out. All of us found a local turf repair that now does all of our properties every many weeks. My sister and I both use the same property management services too. Anytime an occupant has an issue, they go through the property manager. I just need to approve the bills and spend my money on it. I don’t need to take a call or worry about anything. It is more money hiring things out, however my overall stress levels have gone down considerably. I don’t get to see my rental units as often since the turf day is gone, however it is nice having that extra time.

I own a handful of rental properties and I have started hiring out for my services.

• I found a Heating and Air Conditioning contractor to handle all the A/C or oil furnace repairs I needed.

I called for some plumbing services and electrical work was done. I also have a general handyman named Jo who is supposed to be my go to woman. Rather than hire a property manager, I thought I could get by with just hiring skilled independent workers… Well my new handyman Jo isn’t doing so hot. I call him all the time with work to be done. I have a floor in one rental that needs to be ripped up and totally redone. I have a back deck that needs to be completely rebuilt. I also have a house that should be painted as well. I called my handyman Jo, she came over and gave a quote for each job. I said everything sounds great and waited for Jo to do the job, and the woman rarely shows up now when I call him. I don’t understand. I spent my money on time and have endless work for him. What do people do for house repairs? Does everyone have to do the work themselves? I am on the hunt for a general handyman that genuinely wants to work. I found that it is always hard to locate Jo in my area. Right now I am doing a lot of the work myself. I am thinking it might be better to just get a property manager and make them find the skilled workers rather than myself and others doing it. Then it won’t be my problem anymore.

My spouse Pat is genuinely into real estate listings, then after studying a bunch of investment books Pat determined the best way to get rich is to invest in rental properties, she is always on Google or Zillow looking at homes for rent or rental apartments.

Pat already owns many rental units and still isn’t content – one of them is a duplex and the other is a small single family home.

Pat has been looking into possibly getting another single family house or trying her hand at selling commercial real estate! I personally don’t see the appeal of real estate. For one Pat is always taking occupants calls. Pat won’t hire a property manager since she is still small potatoes, so that means when a toilet won’t flush, the sink won’t drain or the dryer doesn’t work, my spouse gets called. Pat isn’t a landlord that ignores complications either. Pat immediately hops in her truck and checks out what is wrong. It is super discouraging… First off, the cost of upkeep on these rentals aren’t cheap; Pat recently had to hire a handyman to put a current roof on her duplex so that it passed inspection. Pat calls for A/C repairs and general service all the time. My spouse is pretty skilled himself, however there are a lot of specialty calls that Pat gets from time to time. I don’t see how Pat gets enough money in rent to make up for what she pays in repairs, then lastly, the stress of owning properties would do myself and others in for sure. She has to handle weird tenants, turf services and spend my money on the property taxes. Pat has to make sure everyone pays on time and isn’t causing disfigure. I wouldn’t appreciate contending with that.

I am a big time marijuana grower.

After I saw a documentary about marijuana farming, I wanted to be a part of the culture.

It is difficult now to get into marjuana growing because of the legal side of it and because there is so much competition. I have retired from my job, have a good pension and need something to do. I am not at this point looking to sell my weed to a cannabis dispensary. Maybe someday I will get to that point but right now it is a hobby. Yes, an expensive one, but I enjoy it nonetheless. I started out with amateur growing equipment like a grow box and then later a grow tent. I stuck to my garage and tried to get my seeds to produce buds. It was a disaster. Once I started investing money into my cultivation equipment, that is really where I started to shine. I found online grow pod solutions. This is a portable facilities company that does everything. They do modular COVID-19 testing solutions, hemp extraction labs, government facility solutions and modular military housing solutions. I got a grow pod set up all online. I was able to choose that I wanted LED lights, both heating and cooling, a hydroponic system, a nutrient system, good ventilation and a separate area to do the curing process of marijuana growing. I even was able to set up where my outlets, drains and tables go in the grow pod. It is such a professional looking facility. I really should start selling my weed.

Three years ago I bought this burgundy rug that I installed throughout my house. The color was a rich purple color. It looked like an expensive wine. I just loved the dark rug with my white walls. Eventually I noticed that overtime I liked the rug less and less. Suddenly it started looking sort of pink to me. Nobody wants pink rugs unless they are a 10 year old girl. I couldn’t figure out why I suddenly had a different colored rug. That was until I started moving furniture around. The carpet under my bed was the same deep wine color. All around my bed was that horrible pink. I realized that the sun pouring in from my windows discolored all the rugs. My rugs are now a weird cow pattern. The hallway is still gorgeous because it is protected from the sun. Most of the bedrooms aren’t. I feel like I can’t move my furniture due to the rugs being different colors. I found online that people use a sun control window film to stop their fabrics from discoloring. I should have gotten the window film installed right with the rug. Now I am screwed. I found my rug again online and I am debating on reading it. But, I would need to pull up all the rugs in my house and lay it down again. It is only three years old! I also would need to pay for the window film installation. I am in quite a pickle but I hate the look of my house right now. Something has to change.

The first time our mother was at our home, I thought she was going to do the pale white glove tests.

Mom dissected every single knickknack plus picked it up to make sure there was no dust beneath.

I watched Mom deliberately pull our leather reclining chair away from the wall so she could see if there was any dirt or dust behind it plus to be sure there were no holes or damage to it. I finally asked her what she was doing. Mom grudgingly admitted she liked our house, plus that she thought our hubby would be perfectly comfortable residing there. What she wasn’t delighted with was that there were no custom made couches or custom furniture in the house. Mom told me she had a appealing piece of handmade custom furniture that she would care about to deliver to me and my hubby plus told me about some of the handmade tables, chairs plus other furniture that they had in their house, plus I wasn’t sure I was interested in having anything. Mom explained to me that our hubby’s Grandpa had made it for him when she was just a little girl plus she honestly wanted him to have the custom furniture couch that she had. Once every one of us moved the new sofa in, that looked more care about an oversized coffin, I screamed, plus our hubby laughed. Mom said she was wondering when she would ditch that on me. Apparently, her own mother had been trying to ditch this custom couch on every 1 of her children when they moved out. I was the first child that hadn’t seen the couch before accepting it.

Last month, I went to an estate auction with our mother.

There was an adorable chair that came up for sale plus I couldn’t help but put an estimate on it. It was just a simple wooden chair and, considering that every one of us were in a farmhouse, I was sure it was certainly handmade furniture.I purchased the wooden chair for only 9 dollars, plus I took it home, but before taking it into the house, I scrubbed clean it so hard; I was afraid I would damage it. I’m not sure how long that chair sat out in the barn, but it was truly disgusting. Once I got the chair into the residing room. It looked care about it was handmade for me plus our room. When I saw the chair being pulled out of the barn, I thought it was truly adorable. I could picture it kneeling in our residing room plus being occupied by our five-year-old daughter. I also thought how cute it would look in her home office, but how would I ever find a matching table. The chair was custom made for either our residing room or our daughter’s room. It looked care about someone had known I was coming to that auction plus had it waiting in the barn waiting for me to show up. Dad thought I was ridiculous for buying that chair that looked so beat up plus broken. When I saw it, I saw that little custom-made chair our dad had handmade for me when I was a little girl for five. A chair brought back various memories, plus I am delighted that I found it for our home.

For anyone who does not consider interior design help a necessity, listen up.

Lately, more plus more, I’m finding that I don’t care about other people. My home is a kaleidoscope of colors plus designs.

Most of the furniture in our current home came from garage sales or goodwill shops. I’m not cheap, although I am a first time homeowner on a budget. I felt that after I got relocated plus our boss gave me the promised raise plus promotion, after that I would purchase some real furniture. I would buy the furniture, 1 room at a time, because I do not assume how I could afford to furnish an entire room all at once. I had to admit that it overwhelmed me with all the planning & shopping for all the small plus giant pieces that would create our home office. I was so in way over our head, plus I knew I needed interior design help if I wanted a lake home that looked more like about a lake home plus not a madhouse. I called our best friend whose spouse had recently finished school for interior design. I asked if she thought she would ‌ come over plus help me with some interior design in our home, and she was sure she would ‌ volunteer her expert interior design help, although I would not allow her to do the labor for free, however for any manner of interior design help she could deliver me, I was more than willing to pay her. I reminded him ‌that he had seen our home plus how horrible it looked, plus I would not be the 1 who had to pay it for the rest of our life for our bad taste. I was going to accept her wifey’s interior design help plus paid her for every single penny she was worth.

High end furniture

My son Jason has always been into drawing, designing, and art. Ever since he was a child, he loved to paint, so my husband and I built a shed for him to be creative. He spent hours in that shed working on different pieces. And over the years, he has gotten so much better and has created some beautiful murals in my home. He even created a portfolio of all his work that he has done. After high school, Jason wanted to pursue a career in graphic design. At first, he thought he needed to go to college before he could become one. After some research, we realized that all he needed to do was to sign up for some graphic design courses. He also needed to learn the software used for designing. Jason wasted no time and he enrolled in the courses that he needed, and while he was taking these classes, he was able to meet a few people who were helpful by providing him with some job leads. After he was done with his classes, he was able to land a job in no time. The company was so impressed with Jason’s portfolio that they hired him on the spot. Jason has since done some freelance design work on the side as well. And his goal is to one day own his own graphic design company. I am so proud of my son because he knew what he wanted to do from an early age, and he worked towards his dream and now he is living it. Not many people can say that they are doing the same.

Last Friday Night, we endured a terrible thunderstorm.

We received six inches of rain in less than 24 hours. The roads were flooded and there were trees and power lines down all over the place. I tried to go to work the day after the rain, but the roads were still flooded and I could not get through. A lot of people had damage from the rain and the wind. My wife and I experienced damage to our roof when a tree in the backyard fell and hit the corner of the house. It was the middle of the day when the tree fell. We immediately went up to the roof to secure the area with a tarp. The wind was blowing fiercely and it was dangerous to be on the roof. Thankfully I had all of the supplies in the garage so I could put the tarp down quickly. After the rain subsided, my wife and I had an opportunity to look at the roof damage. We’ve clearly needed a construction company to fix the roof. The damage was severe, so we contacted the insurance company. The insurance company told my wife and I that they would pay for all of the damages to the roof minus our deductible, but we had to find a roofing company that specialized in insurance claims. Thankfully that didn’t turn out to be a major problem, because most of the roofing contractors in the area are certified to handle insurance claims. Two weeks after the storm, the insurance company paid for us to get a brand new roof on the front of the house.
