The Quietest Air Conditioners

I’m slowly chugging along this morning with my work, but ever so slowly.

I am still feeling wiped out and probably need another few days of total rest before I get back to normal again. I was trying to do too much the past few weeks and now my body is telling me that I need to slow down a bit. My knees and shoulders are in pain, my voice is almost gone, and my energy level is quite low compared to how it normally is. This tells me that I need to slow down and heed my HVAC supplier’s advice and take a week of rest from all of it. My voice is my main worry right now because it has been four days since singing and it is still raw and scratchy. I think my air conditioner in my bedroom at night is drying out my vocal cords and I may need to sleep without any climate control system in my room at night. The problem is that it gets really hot in my tiny room and I can’t sleep if it is too warm all night in there. This is why I bought the mini split a/c unit in the first place, but I don’t want the cooling system to dry out my voice to the point that I can’t sing anymore. Maybe I will try one or two nights to see how my voice is in the morning and if I can even run the unit anymore while I am trying to sleep. My poor a/c unit won’t be happy about this!

A lot of my friends are working at office jobs that they really don’t care about but have to because of bills and commitments.

I have chosen a more carefree type of life and I am hoping that it is the right choice.

Sometimes I wonder if I should have had a family and bought a house, but that seems to be something that is not for me, so I need to listen to my heart and follow it where it is telling me to go. Now, music seems to be the direction my heart wants me to go. Cooling and heating work for the new contractor is a necessity as we try to get this band off the ground. Off the ground meaning off the streets and into clubs that will pay us to perform on a regular basis. The HVAC business owner told me to just focus on the music and try to make it the best we can and then the local businesses will all want us to play in their venues. I will heed her advice from now on and just keep working on the sounds and songs. My bandmate is a cooling representative and works for the HVAC company down the road, and we usually get together to play a few times a week in front of this climate controlled bar. They get a good crowd of people there and we make some good money in tips, along with a bunch of good new songs that we make up on the spot. Things will be heating up soon.

I will write one more article and then go for a life changing bike ride to the end of the world.

I just want to go out for an hour and think about my life and which direction I want it to go for the remainder of my time here.

I am healthy now and still fairly young at 55 years of age, but I will be old soon and won’t be able to do what I can do now, so before it is too late I want to do those things. I don’t want to be sitting beside my air conditioner in my nursing home wishing I lived life differently, so this heating technician is going to try to do some great things before my body is too old to do them. I think you can be content and happy with your life when you are old if you take the chances you wish you took when you were younger. The HEPA filter worker would tell me that fear paralyzes the spirit and that he wishes he pursued music instead of working his whole life and playing it safe at the local business where he works. He told me to go for it and do those things that are scary if it helps you live a fuller life. I am trying to but I still need to work for the local contractor each day doing my HVAC technology work. I am playing music in a band, which is pretty cool to do, and hopefully it will satisfy me when I am an old man in that nursing home.

It looks to be another rainy kind of day, so I am going to hunker down and just work all day in the flat while it rains outside and gives us some much needed water.

They put a watering restriction out where the farmers can no longer water the crops, which seems a bit drastic but maybe it is that drastic now. The showers at the beach are all off because of the lack of water, telling me that the situation is more dire than most people think. I’m not sure how the water storage works but the local contractor told me that they can’t use water at the cooling corp anymore and that it must be pretty bad. I am trying to do my part and not use a lot of water, washing clothes and taking showers, but I still need a shower each day. My hot water heater has decided it also needs a break as it stopped working a few weeks ago and needs to be changed out. It is going to take all day to do, nine hours as my friend told me, but I think the two of us can get it switched out and working by the end of the day tomorrow when we do the job. The HVAC worker is meeting me at my flat at 8am with the new heating device and we are going to do the job in a nine hour window as he says we can do, and we will have a new propane water heater by the end of the day tomorrow.

I guess I am going to step on others’ toes a bit when trying to get a foothold in the music industry.

I’m not trying to claw my way to the top and have a million followers, but I am trying to grab a chunk of people to listen to my music to see what they think of it.

I made the mistake though of buying some plays and now one of my tracks has 12K plays and two likes, which makes it look bad and now I’ll probably have to delete the song. My local heating supplier told me to try it out but it seems like they really aren’t real people and it is just a waste of my HVAC tech money. I thought that it would get some real plays and that those people would play my other songs and like or comment, but it looks to be all fake plays. My HVAC supplier friend maybe was wrong but it is the only way to know if it works or not. I can delete the song and then repost it and those plays will all disappear. The local business can maybe help me because they can get you organic followers with all the people working for them in the air conditioned office here. They put in all the grunt work and get you real followers somehow, but of course that grunt work comes at a cost. I would rather do my HVAC specialist work and pay them to do all the work while I just clean ductwork.

Today is one of those days where my mind is trying to find out if I am happy or not.

It’s kind of funny because my thoughts are swirling around right now and wondering what is missing in my life.

But if I can shift those thoughts to a more gratitude based type of thinking then I will probably be happier. Okay, that’s a good idea and I will do it now. I’m grateful for a nice flat to live in and a cool passion project like music to work on. I’m grateful for my two cats and my HVAC tech job at the heating supplier’s store. I’m grateful for my good health and a loving mom that is still alive and healthy. I’m grateful for my local contractor buddy back home who gives me cooling service work when I come back to visit. I’m grateful for our blossoming band and all the joy that it has brought me over the years, just like a little kid who makes you feel proud and happy. My HVAC technology job is great too because it gets me around other heating and cooling workers who are like minded. I’m grateful for my flatmate who helps pay half the bills here and keeps me company when she is around and not working at the local business. I’m really grateful for my heating and cooling system for keeping me comfy and for having a high SEER rating to keep the bills down each month. I think a nice bacon and cheese omelet is in order this morning as I sit here writing and listening to my stomach grumble.

• I got home early last night and managed to not play any ball on the beach and opt instead to rest my weary body.

I have been overdoing it with sports and singing and really wiped myself out the past few weeks with it all. So now I am on a resting program till my voice recovers and my body doesn’t feel so tired and sore. I am 56 years old and work for the cooling supplier each week and need to save some energy for my HVAC specialist job so that I can keep living the life I live. I just want my voice back so I can get out there and sing again with my friend like we have been doing the past couple of years. Anyway, I am working on my HVAC’s cooling system today by getting a cooling worker out here to service my a/c and maybe give it a little tune up. I will try not to talk much today so that my voice heals and I can sing again tomorrow, but I am not sure it will be ready by then. I also have to do something with this propane heater that I no longer use because it is taking up a lot of space in my flat and I want to get rid of it. Maybe I can store it in the small room upstairs for a while till I figure out what to do.

Summer is here in just eight more days and the weather is doing exactly what it is supposed to. Today I am feeling a bit beat because I missed a jam session two days ago because my voice is hoarse. I’ve been singing too hard and I strained my vocal cords to the point where they feel raw and sore. I need to change the way I sing and not be so rough on my voice or it isn’t going to last much longer. I need to go with a smoother singing voice from now on, and work on heating up my singing before I sing hard. I need to do some scales and warm up my voice a bit more than I have been, but at least the problem is solvable. The heating corp owner had the same problem in his band years ago while singing for some HVAC workers at a party and he told me that you need to pay attention to your voice while singing so as not to strain it too much. I was a bit reckless with my singing and now I will change it so my voice doesn’t get so destroyed from doing what I love to do. My cooling contractor bandmate doesn’t seem to have a problem with his voice, cooling it down after each session properly, something that I need to learn how to do. I will maybe go get some singing lessons soon and see if they can help me with my issue. And the local business near my flat does just that.

Summer is just eight days away and right now I am on a voice rest for the next few days from overusing my voice in the band.

I was making some gravelly sounds and it strained my vocal cords to the point they were raw.

I guess I can’t make those sounds anymore and will need to change my style of singing a bit. We are supposed to play tomorrow but I am not sure I’ll be ready yet, maybe waiting three more days is a better option to get my voice all the way back first. Our music’s heating up and we’ve been playing more for the HVAC supplier and around town, so I am going to need to preserve my voice as much as possible so that we can play a few times a week. My throat still feels a bit raw this morning so another day of not talking much is going to be necessary for me. The HVAC corp where I work will have me work in the back inventory room where I can just unbox cooling and heating equipment and not have to talk to anyone all day long. I guess I will see how my voice feels tomorrow when I wake up and whether I can play that day or not. Worst case scenario I can work at the cooling corp the next few days and rest my voice, then I’ll play this weekend with the heating technician when my voice is back to 100%. At least when I am typing my voice gets a rest!

But the other thing that we really love about having a geothermal heat pump has nothing to do with all the money and energy we’re saving

When my wife and I finally got the opportunity to build a custom home, we paid attention to all of the details. In fact, we spent about 3 years working on the initial designs of the house that we are now enjoying. But it wasn’t until we got close to actually building it that we addressed the residential HVAC. Of course, the heating and cooling of a home is an very essential priority. My wife and I went through an HVAC upgrade when we sold our old home. And that was a real learning opportunity for us. When we bought our old home, it came with the residential HVAC the builder chose. I mean, it did just fine and with consistent HVAC maintenance, it lasted more than 20 years. But the change in HVAC technology over that two decade period of time was substantial. It was pretty amazing to see what all was different. And that’s what initially turned us on to the geothermal heat pump. We both try to live a life that is not wasteful but focused on sustainability. So the fact that the geo heat pump was about the most efficient residential HVAC choice was very appealing to us. We loved the idea of saving so much money and using so much less energy when it came to central air conditioning. And now that we are living in the house, it’s unbelievable just how great all this new HVAC technology is. But the other thing that we really love about having a geothermal heat pump has nothing to do with all the money and energy we’re saving. No, we are so thrilled about the longevity of the geo heat pump. We’re looking at perhaps forty years before we’ll need to upgrade the geo heat pump.
