We went to see a friend in a play the other night, and everything did not go as expected.

First of all, the place was way more crowded than any of us ever dreamed that it would be. After all, it was just a small holiday play at a church in the neighborhood. Anyway, the whole neighborhood turned out to be supportive to all of the actors and the kids in the play. The play itself was pretty good, for what it was. However, there was an issue with the indoor air quality in the room that the church was putting on the play in. The room, even though it was a large room, was much too small for the number of people who showed up to see the play. The indoor air quality in the room was just terrible. Part of the problem was the fact that they couldn’t open any of the windows in the room because they were all fixed windows! I guess you can’t make stained glass in double hung windows. It was terrible because the play was over an hour long and we were all so hot that we were ready to leave by intermission. They had the heating running in that place from the moment we arrived until the moment that we left. I think that the body heat that everyone was giving off made the temperature even higher!

I can’t wait for the after holiday sales this year.

I have been waiting around for months to go and buy a new electric space heater to use in my three season room.

I had been thinking about having a ductless mini split heating and cooling system for the three season room, but if I can hold off until the after holiday sales, I should be okay with an electric space heater. Honestly, I really don’t want to spend very much money on a heating system for the three season room. I don’t spend very much time out there at all, especially during the winter. But it’s so cold out there that I’m afraid to leave canned soda sitting out there because I’m afraid that it will freeze and explode when the temperatures drop too low. That’s why I want a little electric space heater to keep out there during the coldest part of the winter. I should be timing it just right if I go shopping just after Christmas. I know that most places put their electric space heaters and fireplace inserts on sale right after the holidays. Sometimes they are just waiting to get rid of their old stock from the previous year just so that they can make room for the new stuff that’s going to be coming in. I am hoping that I will be able to find something that will be just the right size and power for the three season room. It’s not all that big, so I should be able to get away with a small heating unit.

I can’t imagine ever going so far as using an a/c in our yellowhouse because the energy costs would be enormous. But at least with the fans, the people I was with and I have a nice breeze that moves into the yellowhouse on 1 end plus it is able to exit on the other end. The plants certainly seem to be growing better with the change in ventilation. Without the fans running, some of our plants were wilting from the sheer amount of heat inside the yellowhouse.

Converting the basement into a rec room was a wild plan I had been kicking around for years.

When COVID hit I was homebound for weeks on end, and decided to put my crazy plan into practice. I say it was crazy because I suppose almost nothing about beach apartment renovation. There is a large, old furnace in the corner of the basement, so there will never be a concern when it comes to heating. The air conditioning machine is situated upstairs, and there is no air duct linking it to the basement. Thanks to the furnace this section is often undoubtedly muggy and warm, so if I want to spend any amount of time having fun down here I will need an efficient cooling unit. I shopped around and found a few small, ductless mini-split air conditioning units, but the basement is undoubtedly large so I may need to buy multiple of them. It won’t be cheap, but if I want this rec room to be any good, I will need air conditioning.

I won’t get to use the fireplace for another year, so I want to like it while I can.
