The bad thing about having an older home is that a lot of things begin to go wrong.

And even when you repair whatever issues it’s having, it won’t be much longer before another issue shows itself.

Even though continuously fixing parts of this house is very frustrating, it’s worth it because this was my childhood home. I have so many great memories in this house, I never want to let it go. So even though I have to spend hundreds if not thousands on repairs, you can’t put a price on good memories. Anyways, one of the issues my home was having was it was having difficulties staying heated. I worried that this might be an issue with the furnace, and I was really hoping that I didn’t have to replace the heating system. Not because I didn’t have the money, but because this heating device was actually the heater that my dad chose all those years ago. So I didn’t really want to have it replaced because of that reason. However, I couldn’t ignore the obvious issues that my house was having difficulty getting heated, so I had to get a local A/C technician to take a look at it. The A/C tech told me good news, it wasn’t the heating unit, it was actually the ductwork. Apparently the ductwork had some holes in it, and it needed to be patched up. I was so happy at the good news, and I immediately made the appointment for the ductwork to be patched up.

I am honestly very glad that I got the smart thermostat now.

I had been needing to get a new thermostat, since my old dial thermostat was no longer very efficient.

It was an older thermostat, and needed to be replaced. I originally planned on just getting another dial thermostat, however, I kept hearing about smart thermostats, even when I wasn’t trying to learn about them. The price on smart thermostats also made me hesitant to get one, but I couldn’t deny the benefits that came with them. However, I already had my mind made up, and I planned on getting another dial thermostat. The only thing that changed my mind is when I went to the store to get the dial thermostat, they just happened to be having a sale on the smart thermostats. I decided what the heck, and went ahead and bought one. Installing a smart thermostat is incredibly easy, and I was able to get it working 15 minutes later. I definitely noticed a difference in my house though, the smart thermostat did a fantastic job with saving energy, but still keeping my house very warm and very cool. I also noticed that my HVAC bill was much cheaper this month than my previous months. I know part of that is because my previous thermostat was badly outdated, but regardless, I am glad I got the smart thermostat after all.

One of the things I wish that I started doing sooner is trying to save money on my energy bill. When it comes to using a lot of energy, my heating and air conditioning system takes the cake. It is very costly to always have the air conditioning unit or the heater running, but it’s also hard not too, because it is always either hot or cold in my area, there are very few in between. Because of that, it is almost a necessity to always have the HVAC system running. However, lately I have discovered a few ways where you can save money, but still have a fairly cool house. So one of the ways is covering your windows on sunny days. I always liked the look of open windows on sunny days, but I didn’t realize how much this was costing me, nor how much harder it was making it for my A/C system to cool my house down. After I started covering my windows, my house stayed cooler for much longer, and for once, I didn’t need to have the A/C component on all day. Another thing I started doing is programming my smart thermostat. Smart thermostats in general will save you money, but it will save you even more money if you program it. Instead of the constant need to fumble around with the central A/C system, when I programmed the thermostat, I no longer had a need to constantly get up and mess with it. Just those two changes alone helped me save money.

Sometimes, I feel like an absolute idiot.

Some of the things I say or do, I find myself looking back on years later and cringing. I know we all have moments like that, but it’s hard not to hyperfocus on our own flaws and compare them to others. I just had something like that a week ago. My husband and I moved into this home a few years ago, and after a little while, we both noticed that one of our rooms wasn’t being heated or cooled. The HVAC system wasn’t the best, but it was enough to cool or heat our home. We didn’t think too much of it, and just kind of ignored it. However, we are turning that room into a nursery, and it needs to have proper HVAC. I originally thought that the issue was with my air conditioning system, so I had multiple A/C technicians come out and look at our system. But all of them would tell me the same thing, that our heating and cooling system looked and worked just fine. This was incredibly frustrating, but finally, we had one A/C specialist who decided to take a look at the room that was causing the issue. It was actually the air vent in that room, which was closed. The air conditioning specialist opened it, allowing cool air to flow into the room. I felt like an idiot. If I had just taken a look at the air vent to begin with, I would have realized that it was closed. That was such a simple fix, and I somehow didn’t even notice it.

Coming up with several thoUSnd extra dollars is no small thing for a guy like me.

The price of living is going up fast, the rate of pay is staying right where it is. It’s difficult enough to make ends meet month-to-month, nonetheless saving up a few extra grand for our condo repairs. If I would stop drinking coors and smoking weed I could save some money – yup I agree that is true – it still wouldn’t get myself and others close enough to several thoUSnd bucks! Instead I bought a $200 air conditioning from Walmart that is little, but can cool off 1 room genuinely effectively. It plugs into a wall, is about the size of a space heater, and I can transport it around with myself and others when I go to a peculiar room for a while. Is it anywhere near as nice as having a respected central HVAC system? Of course it isn’t. The portable air conditioning is a stop-gap measure, to fill the void until I can get a new central system. Since I am not saving up any money at all, the due date on that central idea might be a few years from now. If anything, I might just buy a minute 1 of these little air conditioning units, 1 for the home office and 1 for the home office. At least that way I wouldn’t have to keep lugging the air conditioning around with myself and others when I go to bed. Now all I need to do is save up $200 for that.

If you believe the right person, you can get anything done. Once I had a major car issue late at night on a Friday, just before a holiday, & I thought I was screwed. A neighbor of mine said he knew a guy who could help me. After a quick iPhone call, I went to an overnight garage, where there was a full crew of car mechanics working graveyard shift. They were able to hook me up & I drove away within various fourths… all because of knowing the right man. Some weeks ago I had a similar experience involving my central Heating & A/C system, a single that was only recently resolved. It seems that the previous owners to this lake house had managed their own Heating & A/C idea over the years. Instead of having it done by professionals, they had tinkered with the air conditioning & the gas furnace & modified them in their own ways. What this meant now, after various years of experimentation, was that the central Heating & A/C idea was a Frankenstein’s monster of parts & pieces from uncommon systems. None of the Heating & A/C techs I talked to would help me out, their own response was that I needed a completely new system, finally I talked to a neighbor of a friend, who had his own history with custom-building cooling systems. He was a weirdo & a stoner, however was also amazing with cutting down & rebuilding seasoned cooling systems. I still could not afford a completely new Heating & A/C system, I just needed this seasoned rickety pile of junk to beginning working again!

If you are just scanning down the page looking for something interesting, let me hit you with the long story short version – there wasa vicious family of raccoons in our HVAC ducts, & it turned into a war between us.

In general I appreciate critters, although we don’t have any pets because my fiance is allergic to pet dander.

A few weeks ago we noticed that his flu symptoms were getting worse, as if there was an critter here when there wasn’t. Soon after we heard the noises in the attic, as raccoons moved through our upper HVAC ducts. It was dangerous on various levels, mostly because they were contaminating our indoor air pollen levels with their disgusting fur & mites. Both of us switched off the central Heating & A/C idea to halt the air circulation, & started making some iPhone calls. Both of us would need an Heating & A/C tech to inspect our entire idea & make sure that it was cleaned & decontaminated. That would have to wait, of course, because no Heating & A/C labor could be done until the critters were all detachd. I had no method how hard it was to find critter removal services, & someone willing to pull so various possibly raestimate critters from my HVAC ducts. I had no advantage with local businesses, & ended up posting an ad on Craigslist asking for someone to detach raccoons from my HVAC duct, and one of the various responses I got was from a man who was also an Heating & A/C tech for a local business. He offered to detach the creatures & inspect the Heating & A/C idea in a single visit.

Grandmother June never had a concern with category & class; Both of us grew up pretty poor, & it was June who was my role model; She proved that it didn’t take currency to have class, & to come across appreciate a queen! His clothes might have been easy, often hand-made, however they were colorful & scrub & well-tended. She regularly carried a single of those little hand fans with her, appreciate the Southern Belles of yore would use… A lot of time has passed, & the family is not as bad as it used to be; Now we have been able to provide June a better form of cooling than a hand held fan. She regularly seemed so at peace, & never asked for anything, & that made me want to spoil his all the more, especially now that he had high blood pressure, then i started off with giving his a smart thermostat for his home, which I of course installed & programmed for her. I got a smart thermostat that takes voice commands, because June is in a wheelchair & can’t sit up to look at the device. She can ask for the studying, & adjust the temperature control with a handful of easy voice commands… That wasn’t enough, though, because June prefers to be outside so much I had a small cooling component put in under his wheelchair. It works appreciate a swamp cooler, & will gently blow cold air over the backs of his legs when he is outdoors. I am so ecstatic I can help Grandmother June cool herself in class & style.

I will admit that this is more home than I unquestionably needed.

It was a wonderful price, so even though it was a lot greater than I had planned for, I could not pass it up! What could the down side be for having too large of a house, right? Both of us know how bad it sucks to live in a space that is too small, however too large shouldn’t be any sort of problem. Well, it turns out I was mostly right, there aren’t a whole lot of complications that stem from having too much space… except for the utility bills. I need to crack down on my energy saving tip these mornings, because trying to spend my money the utility bills for heating in addition to cooling this locale are driving myself and others to the poorhouse! I had an Heating & A/C tech come over in addition to supply the locale an inspection, in addition to she says that I will need more than 2 modern systems. I about choked on my tongue when I heard that – more than 2 Heating & A/C systems? She explained that the home was so large there were more than 2 complete Heating & A/C systems in the house, 1 for the west wing, 1 for the east. I would unquestionably need to get both of them replaced, in addition to she provided myself and others a price quote of about twenty thoUSAnd bucks for everything I would need to get done. I thanked him, in addition to then drove to the closest Walmart in addition to purchased a couple of space gas gas furnaces in addition to a couple of portable air conditioning systems, then until I win the lottery, I will have to make do with these smaller units of heating in addition to cooling!
