I remember the first time I got a haircut.

My Grandfather picked me up and told my mom we would be back in about an hour. He took me to the local barber shop and told the barber that I needed a trim. He said I had to have hair taken off the back, and he had to lower the ears. I was upset when I heard the clicking of the scissors as he ran the comb through my hair. He then turned on something that buzzed loudly, and I could assume the tickle on my neck. Then there was a bit of a scratch as he bruised the hair off my neck. I remember how he detached the wrap with a flourish and whipped me around to look in the mirror. The barber had detached all the golden curls my mom would proudly show off to all his friends. When we left the barber shop, my Grandfather took me to the candy store and bought me a milkshake. That was a memory that stuck with me for the last thirty years. It seemed like going to the barber was a rite of passage into growing up. You got your first hairsplit and all the curls of childhood were gone forever. Last week, my kid asked me to take his to the barbershop. She wanted to remove his curls from childhood. She showed me this rather cute hairsplit that was a short bob, and he wanted to go to the barber shop. I wasn’t sure a barber could do this haircut, however I knew my beautician could do a great work. I told his a beautician was just a boy barber.

By now, the local meal delivery people probably know me by name, because I use them almost every single day for lunch and dinner. I have a bit of a laziness issue, to the point where I don’t even like to go out and get fast food the regular way. Nah, why do that when you can have someone bring it to you? Anyways, I have a ton of local food delivery places, and since there are so many of them, they are always competing which means they are always sending me good deals and discounts to keep my business. Because of this, and my own laziness, I have been getting local meal delivery almost everyday. One of my most favorite websites has a very neat app. During the hours of breakfast, a big blue button appears saying order breakfast meals online, and it takes you to their best breakfast deal. During lunch, a green button appears saying order lunch meals online, and the same thing. With dinner a red button appears saying order dinner meals online. They also have a randomizer which you can click and it will automatically bring you to a random food order, like ordering breakfast sandwiches online. I love prepared meal services, because I hate cooking and preparing my own meals, so having them made and delivered to me is just perfect. Lunch is coming up, and I am already looking at nearby restaurants where I can order some delicious food. I’m so glad that stuff like food delivery services exist, I don’t know what I would do without it.

Vacation is consistently the best time in the world.

Every time I go on getaway I realize that it has been far too long since my last getaway.

This time, my partner and I took our kids to an amusement park. The amusement park was filled with thrill rides, child rides and other family friendly entertainment options. The park was easily large as well, and we ended up spending 7 hours there. Most of which hours were spent standing in line and walking, so by the end, you can imagine our feet were pretty sore! After a painful walk to our vehicle and drive to the hotel, our kids announced they were hungry. I was exhausted enough to just pass out into the hotel bed, but it was true we didn’t have supper yet. There was no way we were going out somewhere, so my partner proposed using a local meal delivery service. This sounded good to me, and we all took turns looking at the menu. They had an order food online website, or an app, and we decided to download their app. My partner chose the burrito bowls online, I chose the order wraps online option, and our kids chose the order chicken meals online option, and from there we customized our food. The restaurant we ordered from was quite busy, so we weren’t able to get our food for an hour, but that was good with us, because it provided us time to rest and relax, but by the time our food arrived, I was already dozing off, but got up for meal time. Although the local food delivery was great, I think tomorrow we will go out to eat, after my feet get a break.

For work I alternate between 2 locations, but typically I am in the north for more than five weeks out of the year plus then I go down south for the rest of the year, however it is necessary to keep both branches going, occasionally during a holiday or a busy time of the year, I have to make a quick trip to another location. It would be high-priced keeping 2 houses afloat plus maintaining them. I also don’t want to spend money rent in 2 locations unless I need to. Thanking my dealer provides corporate housing. I can get a more than five week block of short term, fully furnished housing no problem. Then when I go down south, I find another corporate beach house to rent out. I always find a location that is fully furnished plus right near my locale of work. I really don’t need much. I don’t bother asking for a corporate suite in a hotel or an actual house, then a fully furnished beach house should do the trick. I really need a working washroom, decently sized family room plus a bed. If I need to watch TV, I will pop open my laptop. I don’t even need a backyard. I can go for a run in village or do yoga right in my family room. I am a simple creature to please… My work always has a nice location for me though. I usually end up with more luxuries plus space than I require! Better to have too much than too little though right? Corporate housing has been nothing but good for me.

If I need to watch TV, I will pop open my PC. I don’t even need a backyard. I can go for a run in town or do yoga right in my living room. I am a easy creature to please, but my employer always has a nice location for myself and others though. I usually end up with more luxuries & space than I require, then better to have too much than too little though right? Corporate housing has been nothing but good for me.

Self-awareness doesn’t come cheap, but it’s desirable for everyone. In my journey to understand and appreciate myself, both the ugly and pretty, I discovered I’m an insomniac. Some people get in bed and two minutes later, are out like a light. I see it with people around me and marvel at it. For me, this is a novelty considering I spend most of my time tossing, turning, and getting frustrated. I have tried everything suggested by specialists. From general psychologists to sleep therapists, but nothing works. I have had a share of my visits to the GP before that. But discovering how my HVAC system can either make or break my quest to have a restful night was phenomenal. Before, I solely depended on my ceiling fan for cooling my room at night. I didn’t understand why the heating in my room made it impossible to settle down, let alone sleep. After coming across a program on a popular news channel, I now understand why. The Sleep Foundation recommends a lower temp room to match your body’s cooling down its temperature when preparing to sleep. Air conditioning bills must be factored in, so I had to get creative. Before, I used the regular conditioning equipment in my home. I switched to a zone-control unit, and the difference is amazing. I had to part with a good chunk of my savings, but it’s so far the best investment I made. The HVAC business in my local area didn’t stock these, so I made an online purchase. But, I used local HVAC technicians to install and assist me decode the user manual. Playing a little with the humidifiers and dehumidifiers is also helping.

Going to college is a reality in the life of many young people.

Like taking your first job interview or getting married, it can be a daunting experience.

Probably not as daunting as when you become a parent but still not a walk in the park. Most students avoid the hassle of independence. They continue to live with parents or relatives while attending college. Others don’t want or can’t continue depending on the previous living arrangement to work. I was in the latter category, and an interesting journal entry of my days in college piqued my curiosity. The title was “Furnace service from hell.” I decided to read the entry and jog my memory. In a few seconds, I began feeling like someone had turned down the heating in my house. The way I had suffered on the day I wrote this entry became clear to me, and, surprisingly, I took longer to recollect. Living in a studio apartment had its perks, especially since rent was affordable. That chilly winter night without heating the subsidized rent was a trivial matter. I couldn’t understand what was happening. An HVAC expert had visited earlier in the fall for maintenance. I tried to reach the landlord, but his phone kept going to voicemail, so I had to brave the cold until the first light. I put on layers of thermal clothing and changed the cotton sheets for a pair made out of synthetic material. The bitter part is that I hadn’t gone on holiday because I needed extra credits to complete the academic year. My grandmother is an important part of my family. Especially in her old age, it is important for my family to include her in all of our major life events; birthdays, graduations, baby showers, you name it, we like to make sure the matriarch of our family is celebrating with us while she still has time with us.Since she is much older, we like to make sure she is as comfortable as can be, always keeping a comfortable chair for her to sit in, keeping her favorite snacks around, and anything else we can do to make her stay more enjoyable.Grandma has retired to a warm climate in her old age, as she is almost always cold, and since I live in a cooler climate, it is crucial to her comfort that we have a properly working heater.
