I’ve been trying to lower my utility bill for over a year now.

Next to my mortgage payment, my utility bill is my second highest monthly expense.

I can control my heat and air usage, so I’ve been trying to run my HVAC system more efficiently. I started by hiring an HVAC professional twice per year to service my HVAC system before the change of seasons. I know it seems counterintuitive to pay someone to come service the HVAC system, but it has saved me a lot of time and money. I was always paying for some kind of repair to my HVAC system throughout the year, but the biannual HVAC servicing has proven to be cheaper. I’ve also been replacing my air filter an extra two times per year. The HVAC professional will switch out my dirty air filter for a clean one whenever he comes to service the HVAC system, and then I switch it out two more times throughout the year. A clean air filter allows the air to flow freely into my home and I don’t have to worry about my blower working harder to heat or cool. The next thing I do is adjust my thermostat by a few degrees before leaving the house. There’s no point in making my furnace or air conditioner run while I’m not there. The HVAC system will still run while I’m away to some degree, but it’s not nearly as much. Lastly, I started keeping my outside unit clean. I trim all the bushes around it and I wash the dirt off the coils. A clean outside unit makes everything run more efficiently. All of this HVAC maintenance has dropped my utility bills by at least 30%.

One of my best friends is a single mom with two teenage boys.

I adore her two boys and I consider them family because I’ve grown up watching them.

They are really great kids, but they’re teenagers which means they’re going through a lot of changes. All these changes bring a lot of emotions to their household. Something I love about the school I teach at is how I have control over the thermostat in my classroom. I know a lot of teachers who work at other schools and their number one complaint is about the thermostat settings. Their rooms are either too hot or too cold. Most schools don’t allow their teacher’s to control the temperature of their classrooms for efficiency and consistency reasons. From what I’ve heard from some of the older teachers, our school wasn’t always like this. The principal used to control the heat and air settings for the entire building. One year though, the teachers fought for their right to have control over the temperature settings in their room. If they were going to spend all day teaching in one room, they wanted the right to set the thermostat however they pleased. The principal agreed, but there were a few limitations. Teachers were granted access to their thermostat, but they could only set the temperature between 65 degrees and 75 degrees. This would keep things running efficiently. The clear lock boxes were also required to remain locked at all times in order to prevent students from altering the thermostat. Each teacher was given a key to the thermostat lock box and they were responsible for it. If a teacher couldn’t follow these guidelines, then the key would be taken from them and the principal would set it himself. I’m so thankful those teachers fought for our thermostat freedom today. I prefer to work in a room that’s not too hot or too cold.

I couldn’t tell you how several times I have suffered driving to & from work.

It wasn’t only the lengthy commute that entirely got to me, however it was also the fact that my car never had A/C.

I constantly thought about just taking my car to the shop to get the A/C fixed, however then the people I was with and I was constantly worried that it was going to be way too fancy. It was unbelievably self-explanatory & it didn’t take that long to do. Then the people I was with and I got back on the road & he had me turn on the A/C method & I was in disbelief when the a/c was blowing ice-cold air!

This might sound strange to some people, although I still host coffee parties for my loved a singles who have passed away… I have a few in my family who have died in recent years & the two of us constantly carried on the tradition of having coffee parties in our home, but every one of us would constantly set the temperature control settings to a particular level & get the fire going in the fireplace.

Every one of us would all have the coffee brewing properly while the two of us would all appreciate our coffee while chatting around the fireplace.

I loved how my mother would bring little treats for everybody & my uncle would constantly manage to bring some alcohol. It was constantly a appealing & memorable experience amongst my loved a singles, and now, everybody in my circle has passed away which only leaves me. Perhaps it will be such a good experience for them that they will carry on this marvelous family tradition with their own families a single day. Whether they keep the tradition going or not, it’s still constantly a grand experience when you have a fireplace to relax in front of with loved a singles. Eventually, I will have a ductless mini split installed in my home, to help me assume a little more comfortable. I can’t constantly split enough wood for the fireplace these days.

Replacing most of the appliances in my new home was not something that I was all that gleeful about.

My partner on the other hand, she was glad.

That appealing lady had been waiting years to get these household upgrades. She did all the research plus new exactly what she wanted when it came to all those new appliances.
